Presentations and Workshops

See below for a list of presentations and workshops that I offer. These workshops are designed to be accessible to anyone who wants to learn more about these spiritual exercises. Each workshop offers hands-on time to practice the spiritual exercises in a group.

Workshops Offered

An overview of what spiritual direction is and what it is not. The presentation also delineates the differences between spiritual direction, psychological counseling, pastoral counseling, and New Age counseling.

  • Discerning God's Will

The focus of the workshop is to define discernment. Time will be given to applying discernment methods prescribed by Jesus and Saint Ignatius to a decision in your life.

  • What is the Soul

An examination of the biblical soul. The presentation focuses on the work of Dallas Willard, the Great Commandment, and the difference between a healthy and unhealthy soul.

  • Prayer of Examen

An overview of the Prayer of Examen as presented by Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The Examen is a practice focused on becoming more sensitive to God's presence and promptings with us, not only during prayer but throughout all of life (Jerry Daoust). Workshop time will be dedicated to detailing the steps of the Examen, as well as practicing it together.

  • Lectio Divina

Lectio Divina is Latin for "Divine Reading." It is an ancient Christian practice focused on reading Scripture with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The workshop will focus on teaching the steps of Lectio Divina and practicing it together in groups.

  • Retreats

The workshop focuses on defining what a retreat is, why to go on a retreat, what a retreat consists of, where to go, how to prepare, and how to debrief after a retreat.

  • Contemplative and Centering Prayer

Contemplative prayer is a spiritual practice centered on being present with and focusing on God. The workshop will provide an overview of what contemplative prayer is, and after instruction, will offer time to practice centering prayer.
